Durkin's New Chapter: Paving the Way for Growth, Innovation, and Service Excellence

Durkin is gearing up for a move to new premises, driven by a strategic vision for growth and enhanced service delivery. We recently sat down with Durkin Managing Director, Sean Durkin, to delve into the key factors that have shaped this transition.

REASONS BEHIND THE MOVE

“Our Pavement Technology team has experienced substantial growth, which has necessitated more space for our laboratory, and to accommodate the growing team effectively”, said Sean. The move aligns with the company's commitment to meeting growing demand while maintaining service excellence.

STRATEGIC LOCATION CHOICE

The choice of the new location reflects Durkin's foresight in predicting the westward shift of Sydney's centre. “Proximity to a railway station was a key factor when deciding on location. We want to prioritise accessibility for employees.” Sean also advised that it was a strategic choice due to the potential for major civil engineering projects in Western Sydney.

LABORATORY EXPANSION PRIORITISED

Recognising the evolving needs of the business, Sean explained that Durkin is shifting focus from traditional office space to a more extensive laboratory. “Our strategy to outsource administration, estimating, engineering and survey office work to our Philippines office is well advanced, allowing Engineers and Project Managers more on-site and collaborative opportunities.” Sean expects this realignment will enhance service delivery and client interaction.

INCORPORATING CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGIES

The Durkin team are looking forward to the use of state-of-the-art technologies that will be incorporated in the new premises, such as soil compaction hammers, a custom soil storage system, and a Foam Bitumen rig. Sean expects that “these additions will streamline processes, reduce manual handling risks, and improve overall efficiency.”

ENHANCING SERVICE QUALITY

“Part of the impetus for this move is the reduction in manual handling, improved efficiency, and additional training opportunities that are anticipated,” said Sean, “all of which we expect will result in improved project delivery times and service quality”. Durkin's focus on professional advice and continuous improvement is set to benefit from a more collaborative work environment.

MINIMISING DISRUPTIONS

With meticulous planning spanning months, Durkin is staging the move to minimise disruptions. Recalibrating laboratory equipment poses a potential risk, but the company has implemented measures to ensure a smooth transition. The move is planned to conclude by December 21, 2023, marking a new chapter in Durkin's journey.

Durkin's shift to new premises stands as a testament to its commitment to growth, innovation, and delivering exceptional services to clients. The company looks poised to embrace this transformative phase with enthusiasm, geared towards shaping a more dynamic and collaborative future.
