Panashe Moses Chimbeva: A Surveyor with a Passion for Learning

Have you ever wondered how underground utilities are mapped? Or how new roads and buildings are planned? The answer is: surveyors.

Surveyors are responsible for measuring and mapping the land and its features. They use their skills and knowledge to create accurate and detailed maps and plans that are used by engineers, architects, and other professionals to design and build new infrastructure and buildings.

One surveyor who is passionate about his work is Panashe Moses Chimbeva. Panashe is a highly skilled and experienced surveyor from Zimbabwe who joined Durkin in August 2023. In his role, Panashe is responsible for a wide range of tasks, including measuring distances, directions, and angles to determine, locate and define underground utilities; producing reports for clients and management; creating maps, plans, models and charts; performing site surveys/survey functions; liaising with engineers, sub-contractors, clients and other on-site personnel; reading and interpreting CAD drawings; liaising with other onsite personnel such as engineers and supervisors; and using GPS, Robotic Total Stations, aerial and terrestrial scanners, and computer software.

Panashe enjoys the variety that his job offers and the opportunity to work on projects that have a real impact on the world around him. He is also grateful for the opportunity to work with a team of talented and supportive colleagues.

One of Panashe's most satisfying work experiences was his ability to communicate effectively with a client who was particularly nervous about the surveying process. Panashe was able to explain the process in layman's terms and put the client at ease. As a result, the client was very happy with the final product.

Panashe is committed to his professional development and is always looking for ways to improve his skills and knowledge. He is currently enrolled in a course on the latest surveying technologies. He is also a member of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI) and attends regular industry events to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and developments.

Panashe is a valuable asset to the Durkin team and is a role model for other young surveyors. He is passionate about his work, committed to his professional development, and always willing to go the extra mile.
