Francois Davel: A Pavement Engineering Extraordinaire

In our employee spotlight today is the astute Francois Davel, our Pavement Engineer extraordinaire at Durkin. With a keen eye for detail and a strong commitment to quality, Francois is the linchpin in our pavement construction and quality control endeavours.

Francois is a Civil Engineering graduate from the University of Pretoria, holding a B.Eng. in Civil Engineering and a B.Eng. Honours in Transport Engineering - Pavement Design. His technical prowess and stellar qualifications facilitate effective problem resolution and improvement implementation.

Francois's role is pivotal, involving comprehensive pavement investigations to pinpoint damages and distress causes accurately. He meticulously compiles Pavement Investigation Reports, offering invaluable insights and recommendations for rehabilitating designs on the investigated pavement sections.

Francois also specialises in the analysis of asphalt, soils, and concrete laboratory test results, ensuring nothing but top-tier quality in every pavement construction project he oversees.

Francois is a seasoned problem-solver, a meticulous planner, and an invaluable asset to the Durkin team. He enjoys the synergy amongst colleagues and takes pride in working in a supportive and collaborative environment.

For Francois, satisfaction at work comes from seeing a well-laid plan come together on site. The joy of brainstorming practical implementations of pavement designs and witnessing them materialise is rewarding.

Outside of work, Francois is a devoted family man, an avid guitarist, and a sports-shooting aficionado, having represented South Africa in an international competition in 2011. Deeply introspective, he enjoys exploring and discussing themes of religion and eternity, with a special focus on Christianity.
